While some have speculated that the Apple Watch fell short of industry expectations, it certainly didn’t fall short based on sales numbers compared to the market as a whole. In a press release published yesterday by Strategy Analytics, it shows that the Apple Watch was chosen 75% of the time during the months of April, May and June 2015, by consumers around the world looking to purchase a new smartwatch.
Also interesting: this data shows that smartwatches (at least currently) are a technology on the rise. Smartwatch sales in the 2nd quarter of this year eclipsed sales for all of 2014.
While wristwatches certainly aren’t a new technology — Nerdy Fact: the first wristwatches were actually created in the 16th century and were originally only worn by women — the development of an advanced miniature touchscreen computer as a wristwatch is only just beginning. It will be interesting to see where the leading producers of this emerging technology take it, especially given the limited size of the screen and functions currently available.
